First Permanent Molars Coming In (Age 6)

  • Around age 6, your child’s first permanent molars begin to erupt, right behind the baby molars.

  • These teeth do not replace baby teeth, so they can be easy to miss!

  • If your child feels discomfort as the molars come in, offer ice cream followed by water to rinse away sugars.

  • If the discomfort is stronger, you may give age-appropriate pain relief (such as Tylenol).

  • If you ever notice swelling, prolonged pain, or difficulty brushing in the back, ask BalloonDoc 🎈🦷 to take a look!
